The East took control in the second half when coach Lowell Drake used an offensive unit with all 11 members from his championship Academy team. Among the Lions who were stars in the game were Deco Schwindt, Lou Truitt, Al Kline, Vince Jaworek, Jim Coyne, Eugene Brown, Ray Baer, Carl Nemenz and Jack Schreckengost. The East also featured Paul Barone of Wesleyville, Roy Cline and Art Amendola of East. The game was scoreless at halftime before Drake switched to his All-Academy lineup. The East dominated the rest of the game.

Game Summary
1944: East 13, West 6
Academy quarterback Eddie Pasky scored all the points for the winners. He had a pair of 1-yard quarterback sneaks and kicked an extra point. Pasky also had an interception on the 1-yard line in the final minute to preserve the East win. Bill Roach of Academy had an interception to set up the winning touchdown. Joe Cerami of Strong Vincent passed 10 yards to Ray Dombrowski of Tech for the only West touchdown. The PAT kick by Art Arkelian of Strong Vincent was blocked. East standouts included Ralph Hooven of Lawrence Park, who played every minute; Don Faller of Harbor Creek, Chuck Hagmann of Academy, Roach, Jim Mahoney of Prep, Bill Rausch of Girard, Tom Wells of Millcreek and Bob Reinwald of Academy. West stars were Ray Oldach of Prep, Dombrowski, Cerami and Bill Brabender of Vincent.
