| Wally Mahle of Fort LeBoeuf led the County, with 11,000 fans watching. Mahle,
who later played at Syracuse, scored on a 20-yard run. Sam Hazen of Fort LeBoeuf
had a safety for the winners, tackling Tom Baginski of East in the end zone.
An interception by George Kostrubanic of Fairview set up the other County touchdown
in the fourth quarter. Kostrubanic returned the ball 31 yards to the County 34.
Dick Schau of McDowell ran 34 yards with 15 seconds left for the touchdown. Rick
Seus of McDowell had 31 yards on 10 carries. Dick Heiden of North East aided
the County ground game. Mahle had 9 carries for 54 yards. Bill Gabor of Fort
LeBoeuf, Dave Crotty of Lawrence Park and Don Stefano of Lawrence Park were outstanding
on defense. Rich Arrington of East was a standout in a losing cause for the City. |

| A punishing City ground game featuring East products Tom Carpenter and Art Miller
was the difference in front of 12,000 fans. Carpenter rushed 11 times for 99
yards. Carpenter scored on runs of 3 and 11 yards. Miller carried 9 times for
94 yards, including a 56-yard TD. Ron Chimenti of Prep hit 4 of 15 passing for
98 yards, including a 16-yard strike to Al Lubiejewski of Prep for a touchdown.
Rich Scheppner of Cathedral Prep scored on a 30-yard interception return. Miller
accounted for the only PAT in the game with a kick .The City led 25-0 at halftime.
The County lost 4 of its 7 fumbles. A brawl erupted with two minutes left, emptying
both benches. Order was restored and the game finished. |
