Game Summary |
1969 :
City 12, County 0
|
The trio of Pat Steenberge
of Prep, Don Aleksiewicz of East and Ron Nietupski of Tech
proved too much for the County to handle in front of a
crowd of 15,000. Steenberge hit on 13 of 21 passes for
101 yards and carried 13 times for 69 yards. Aleksiewicz
carried 11 times for 43 yards and had 6 receptions for
52 yards. Nietupski rushed 6 times for 18 yards and had
2 receptions for 20 yards. Three Steenberge-to-Aleksiewicz
passes sparked a 72-yard drive in the second quarter. Steenberge
went the final yard for the TD. Late in the half the City
had a fourth-and-6 at the County 19. Steenberge hit Rusty
Felix of Prep for a 12-yard gain. After a loss, Steenberge
hit Aleksiewicz for a 10-yard touchdown. Gary Lindberg
of Fort LeBoeuf had 22 yards on 5 carries. Keith Reynolds
of Harborcreek added 21 yards on 6 attempts. Bob Heiden
of North East had 19 yards on 6 rushes. A unique note to
this game came when the City had a fourth down and 56 yards
to go. |

|
Randy Whittelsey of Fort LeBoeuf
and Dan Taylor of Corry starred for the County. Whittelsey
threw a 20-yard touchdown pass to Dick Coursey of McDowell
and hit Dave Ostrum of Wattsburg with a conversion pass.
Taylor carried 26 times for 101 yards, including a 1-yard
TD. That capped a 73-yard march in the fourth quarter.
Paul Jazenski of Iroquois, Jim Leopold of Fairview, Ken
Antalek of Iroquois and Jerry Nowakowski of Harborcreek
were other standouts for the winners. The County squelched
three other scoring opportunities, fumbling on the City
12-yard line and failing to capitalize after recovering
2 fumbles deep in City territory. Eddie Woodard of East
carried 11 times for 58 yards to lead the way. Bob Powell
of Strong Vincent aided the City ground game. The City
fumbled 6 times and lost 3. The crowd was 13,000. |
