Tibor Solymosi of Prep rushed
for 151 yards on 21 carries and a touchdown for the City,
with 12,000 in attendance. Joe Noonan of Tech hit on 5
of 9 passes for 88 yards and 2 touchdowns. The City put
together 3 long drives for touchdowns. Solymosi had runs
of 16, 13 and 23 yards in a 9-yard march. Noonan passed
16 yards to Solymosi for the TD. An 80-yard drive was ignited
by Solymosi’s 28-yard burst. Noonan connected with
Dave Cronin of Prep for 26 yards before Joe Dipre of Prep
scored from 1 yard out. Noonan passed to Jeff Ellis of
Tech for the PAT. A 98-yard march featured a 27-yard run
by Dipre and a 19-yarder by Bob Staab of Tech before Noonan
hit Mark Zonno of Prep for a 22-yard TD. Richie Gavin of
East ran for the 2-point conversion. Sam Scott passed 57
yards to former Girard teammate Rod Grettler to set up
the lone County TD. Joe Pfeiffer of Wattsburg scored from
6 yards out. Dipre had 61 yards on 10 carries, Rick Kurt
of Iroquois 25 yards on 10 attempts. |

Gerry DiGello of Tech ran for
130 yards on 15 carries and scored 2 touchdowns with 8,500
looking on. DiGello scored on runs of 4 and 6 yards. Eric
Sonnenberg of Tech had a 2-yard TD run. Dana Gibbs of East,
who rushed 21 times for 67 yards, kicked two extra points.
Gibbs also passed to Pat McKendrick of Strong Vincent for
a two-pointer. Mark Filipowski of Prep connected on 8 of
15 passes for 84 yards. McKendrick was his top receiver.
Harry Evanoff Iroquois passed 13 yards to Bill Kruse of
McDowell for the County touchdown. Evanoff also tossed
to Kruse on the two-point conversion play. Evanoff hit
on 5 passes during the final County drive. The County also
threatened at the end of the first half when Ron Walcheck
of Northwestern hit 3 passes and ran 21 yards to the 2-yard
line before being stopped as the half ended. Walcheck and
Bob Ferrando of Fairview led the County offense. |
