The game was played in a driving
rainstorm, yet drew a crowd of 9,000. John Toran of Academy
recovered a fumble to set up the City touchdown in the
third quarter. Fran Mifsud of Prep carried 6 straight times
on the drive, going the final 7 yards for the TD. Kirk
Loomis of Tech ran for the 2-point conversion. The County
put together a 76-yard march, featuring the running of
Keith Bille of Fairview, Mike Tome of Girard, Joe Hampy
of McDowell and Ron Leuschen of McDowell. Hampy scored
on a 1-yard plunge. Bille tacked on the 2-point conversion
on a run for the 8-8 tie. Both teams threatened in the
fourth quarter. Steve Ferrando of Fairview intercepted
2 passes to end City threats. Dave Barthelmes of Academy
recovered a fumble to end a County march. Mifsud was the
leading ball carrier with 123 yards on 24 attempts. Leuschen
gained 69 yards on the ground. Tome had 11 carries for
63 yards, Bille with 13 runs for 38 yards. |

This game was played at McDowell’s
Gus Anderson Field due to Veterans Stadium renovations.
Attendance was 6,000. Andy Dawson of East scored twice
and had 189 yards rushing on 18 carries. He had a 73-yard
touchdown run and another gain of 57 yards. Mike Delahunty
of Academy threw a 78-yard touchdown pass to Mike Tighe
of Prep. Delahunty also hit Chris Nowak of Prep for a 10-yard
TD. Dawson had a 1-yard touchdown. His 73-yard TD came
with 49 seconds left. Dawson ran for one PAT, Ron Delinski
of Strong Vincent with a conversion kick. The County had
2 punt returns for touchdowns. Dave Seifert of Fort LeBoeuf
had a 65-yard runback and Mike Cragg of Corry scored on
a 56-yard return. The two also teamed for the third TD
when Cragg passed 19 yards to Seifert. The Strong Vincent
duo of John Dahlstrand and Delinski was outstanding on
defense for the City. |
