| Both City touchdowns came as the result of turnovers. Kevin
Litz of Tech had a 41-yard interception return for a touchdown
in the first quarter. Mike Easterling of Strong Vincent ran back
a fumble recovery 55 yards for a TD in the third period. Tony
Lee of East added the two-point conversion on a run. The County
drove to the City 9-yard line behind the running of Wayne Boyd
of Harborcreek and Steve Ellis of Fairview before John Corkan
of Strong Vincent recovered a fumble. The County threatened again
in the fourth quarter, with a first down on the City 8-yard line.
Defensive plays by Mike Smith of Tech, Mike May of Prep and Bill
Dietz of Prep produced a fourth-and-11. Gary Metzgar of Prep
then threw the quarterback for a loss to preserve the shutout.
Other City defensive stars included Tim Mahoney of Prep, Aaron
Carson of Academy and Pat Erdman of Tech. Dave Uglow of Harborcreek,
Brian Coon of Girard and John Maloney of Corry excelled on defense
for the County. Litz and Lee led the City rushing game, Boyd
and Ellis the top carriers for the County. |

Amos Tate of Tech scored three
touchdowns as the City dominated. Bill Nantes of Harborcreek
set a Save-An-Eye record with 4 interceptions. Tate scored
on a 20-yard run, 1-yard run and an 80-yard kickoff return.
He finished with 81 yards rushing. R.J. Costello of Tech
was another standout for the City, with his dad Ron doing
the coaching. Costello had 82 yards rushing on 7 attempts.
His 32-yard rollout set up Tate’s second TD. Costello
passed 6 yards to Henry Baskin of East for another touchdown.
Greg Harayda of Academy tossed a 40-yard touchdown pass
to Paul Przepierski of Academy and capped the scoring with
a 32-yard pitch to John Caporale of Prep. Ray Paris of
McDowell caught a pair of 2-point conversion passes. Joe
Amoroso of Corry scored the County touchdowns on runs of
1 and 5 yards. Tim Wilkins of Fairview kicked both extra
points. Amoroso led the County with 92 yards on 20 carries.
Harayda connected on 4 of 7 passes for 56 yards. Costello
hit 3 of 6 for 54 yards. Rick Nash of North East had 5
receptions for 84 yards. |
