The City won in dramatic fashion,
scoring on a 35-yard tailback option pass from Randy Davis
to former Tech teammate A.J. Jimerson with 38 seconds left.
Davis took a pitch from quarterback Jeff Schneidmiller
of Prep, then connected with Jimerson. Ric Giles of East
scored on a 62-yard run on the first play from scrimmage.
The game marked the return of Brian Milne to the field.
He had missed his senior season due to Hodgkin’s
Disease. The Fort LeBoeuf star carried 30 times for 164
yards and scored both County touchdowns on 1-yard plunges.
He also ran for a 2-point conversion. Andy Hilling of Prep
scored on a 2-yard run. Schneidmiller hit 10 of 15 passing
for 127 yards, Davis with 5 of 8 throws for 74 yards. Chris
Snyder of Seneca had 6 rushes for 57 yards, Al Chorney
of Fairview with 10 runs for 48 yards. A crowd of 11,000,
the largest since the renovation of Veterans Memorial Stadium,
was on hand. |

Strong Vincent coach Joe Bufalino
had 11 players from his state championship team. Three
Vincent backs had big nights. Tim Romanski carried 7 times
for 96 yards. Tony Robie had 13 attempts for 56 yards.
Quentin Orlando had 13 carries for 54 yards. Robie scored
from a yard out, Orlando with a.5-yard TD run. Romanski
capped the scoring with a 52-yard touchdown. Craig Woodard
became the first Mercyhurst Prep player to perform in the
Save-An-Eye Game. He had a 54-yard touchdown run. Bill
Lyons of Academy accounted for the other TD on a 7-yard
run. David Guilianelli of Academy kicked 4 extra points
and a 33-yard field goal. Chad Vogt of Harborcreek scored
the only County TD on a 5-yard keeper. Vogt had a superb
showing in a losing cause. He hit 10 of 28 passes for 139
yards, rushed 6 times for 15 yards, caught a pass for 6
yards and had a 33.7 punting average. The crowd was 8,500. |
