Tim Malesiewski of North East had a 10-yard touchdown run with less then 3 minutes left for the game’s only score. The run capped a 73-yard drive. The key play in the march was a 40-yard pass from Ron Leeds to former Fairview teammate Dale Gregory. Nick Price of Iroquois added the conversion. Malesiewski was the game’s leading ball carrier with 10 attempts for 51 yards. Leeds connected on 8 of 13 passes for 79 yards. Gregory caught 4 passes for 50 yards, Pete Wisniewski of Northwestern with 3 receptions for 19 yards. Harry Izbicki of Cathedral Prep hit 12 of 22 passes for 95 yards. Chris Conrad of Central caught 6 passes for 70 yards. Sheldon Thomas of Prep was the City’s leading ball carrier with 33 yards on 11 rushes. Mark Miller of McDowell had 7 carries for 20 yards. This defensive battle marked the final appearance on the sidelines for retiring Fairview coach Jack Bestwick.

The City used a big play offense, with 15 plays gaining 10 yards or more. Mo Troop of Central hit on 7 of 9 passes for 120 yards, including a 27-yard touchdown pitch to Mike Palmer of McDowell. Cliff Crosby of East scored on a spectacular 17-yard run, aided by a crushing block by Kevin Klemm of Central. Eric Kempisty of Central kicked the PAT. Andy Kish of McDowell went 2 yards for the final City TD. The 87-yard drive came after Klemm recovered a County fumble. The march featured runs of 15 and 14 yards by Crosby. Brian Ostrum of Mercyhurst Prep passed to Kareem Carson of Strong Vincent for the two-point conversion. Curtis Jones of Mercyhurst had 72 yards on 15 carries, Crosby with 63 yards on 7 trips. D.J. Hough of Northwestern led the County with 55 yards on 11 carries and 2 receptions for 12 yards. Strait had 48 yards on 5 carries. Brett Sproveri of Corry returned 3 kicks for 101 yards. The win went to Tim Holland, who had recently retired as Central’s coach. The game featured Crosby and Eric Hicks, who would both later play in the NFL after collegiate careers at Maryland.
